03/01/19 – $476 donated to protect critically endangered Western Swamp Tortoise
On November 30th, 2018, it was all smiles at morning tea as WRM hosted Jan Bant (pictured left), Chairperson of the Friends of the Western Swamp Tortoise (FoWST), who received a donation from WRM director Andrew Storey (pictured centre) of $476 on behalf of the friends group.
To achieve this figure, a fantastic fundraising effort was put in by Tracy Thillainath, whose daughter Emma (pictured right) is an Environmental Consultant with WRM. Tracy raised $238 by selling Entertainment books, with WRM matching this dollar-for-dollar, making the total donation to the FoWST $476. Jan came in to receive our cheque and gave WRM staff a fascinating talk on the biology, ecology and current status of the critically endangered Western Swamp Tortoise, as well as a run-down of the FoWST’s past, present and future conservation initiatives.
Huge thanks go out to Jan and all the volunteers at the FoWST for all the great work they do protecting Australia’s rarest reptile, and of course to Tracy Thillainath for her hard work fundraising for such a great cause.
