WRM Gives a Crap!
WRM has always been conscious of waste production, and being environmentally-friendly wherever possible. With increasing awareness of plastics ending-up in our oceans, and with the advent of nation-wide initiatives such as Plastic Free July and moves to ban plastic shopping bags, there is more incentive than ever to reduce contributions to landfill and minimise single-use plastics. Unfortunately, good science and risk of contamination of samples means we can’t always avoid single-use plastics, such as nitrile gloves, plastic disposable filters and plastic syringes for water quality sampling. But all is not lost – WRM have realised that in order to move forward as a waste-conscious workplace, we have to look behind.
Or rather, at our behinds.
In a move to reduce plastics and waste, WRM is moving towards paper-wrapped consumables. Our latest initiative is to introduce paper-wrapped, recycled toilet paper onto the WRM premises. “Who Gives A Crap” is an Australian-owned business that supply 100% recycled toilet paper, plastic free, with 50% of their profits donated to charities such as Wateraid and Sanergy, that help build toilets and provide sanitation in developing countries. We won’t be left behind with our behinds! By making small changes to consumables in the workplace, WRM hopes to reduce waste wherever possible. One bum at a time.
