WRM staff attend Primer workshops for multivariate analyses
On 7th – 11th December 2015, Alex Riemer, Anton Mittra and Bonita Clark from WRM attended a 5 day Primer 7 workshop at Murdoch University, WA. The workshop was aimed at those new to multivariate analysis and the PRIMER software or who had only used it in a fairly standard way and needed a fuller introduction to the background and application of the methods. Some core information on PERMANOVA+ was also covered, but only in a single session. This workshop was led by Prof K Robert Clarke (a PRIMER-E Director, Fellow of Plymouth Marine Laboratory and Adjunct Professor at Murdoch Uni). It was very well attended, with 28 participants, mostly from WA but with people from all but one of the Australian states.
Following this, on 14th -16th December 2015, Adam Harman and Jess Delaney from WRM attended a 3 day advanced PRIMER 7 conversion workshop, also at Murdoch University. This course was designed specifically for people who had attended a previous PRIMER workshop or were otherwise very familiar with the methods and use of the PRIMER routines, but who now wished to understand and experience methods and features new to PRIMER 7, released earlier in 2015. This workshop started where the previous PRIMER 6 courses had finished. Bob Clarke again lead the course. As befts an advanced workshop, there were very wide-ranging questions and discussion of all aspects of PRIMER and PERMANOVA+, and a very vibrant atmosphere, with many PRIMER “old-hands” present. There were 24 attendees for this more specialised workshop.
